Paul - yes, the NI Assembly is elected using STV. As far as I'm aware that's the only place in the UK where STV is used at the moment.

Not sure what the thinking behind its use in NI was, when the Scottish Parliament is elected using the much less desirable Additional Member System; it may have been designed to bring the Assembly elections in line with the Republic of Ireland's electoral system, which is also based on STV, I guess.

I'm pretty sure the elections for the Northern Ireland Assembly use STV rather than FPTP.

An excellent piece showing why it is so important to vote.

I always make a point to vote in any election (either local or national) and even when I've been out of the country I've voted by post.

But this election really is different as it finally gives us a chance to change the system away from confront to cooperation.

Let us just hope that in the event of a hung parliament our politicians decide they can actually work together and we don't end up repeating the process in a few months.

PS I should say that while in the past I have voted for a variety of different parties, I'm not a supporter of either Labour or the Conservatives.

"I’m working on a fairly mammoth post about the upcoming election, proportional representation, and what’s truly at stake on May 6th."

Well hurry up! My postal voting forms arrived today, and I want to get it out of the way. I live in a marginal too, so don't miss your chance.

Over here your pretty much guilty until proven innocent. The tough spot here is that someone could do a bit of hacking and you could be the one disconnected for it.

We miss you Rob, come back. You & Corellon were treated very shabbily indeed and on behalf of the rest of the guild I apologise. We've reformed on Darkmoon Faire (under new management, heh) and we'd love to see you both with us again. It'd be a crying shame not to give the new content a whirl, it's unbelievably good. :)

Long-time reader, first-time commenter. I really like your writing style, and particularly your political entries. I could stand to read them a bit more frequently. :)

In this case you've articulated exactly my feelings: That MPs aren't above the law just because they're elected. I particularly like your last ironic comment.
